AUTHORISATION OF USE AND RESTRICTIONS
A.
The Levadia Library has
10
computers available
(8
in the basement department and
1
at each first and second floor). They can be used as
follows:
a.
for Internet connection
b.
for
use of already installed programmes
c. for use of the library’s audiovisual material (CD-ROM,
DVD-ROM)
B.
Users of the computers are required to have a library
membership card, which can be obtained at the library
service office by filling in the required application form
and agreeing to the application regulations. Visitors
and occasional users
are exceptions to these rules.
C.
Guardians, and guardians only, for children under 12 years
of age, are in charge of and responsible for their
children’s surfing on the Internet. Guardians are required
to show adequate identification.
The library
suggests that the parents accompany their children. (Is
there a difference between parents and guardians here? Could
you just replace “guardians” with “parents or guardians?”)
D.
It is prohibited to use any kind of computer equipment (or
software?) from an exterior source as well as modify or harm
in the hardware equipment.
E.
The computers can be used only for legal purposes.
Unacceptable uses include (but are not limited to):
harassment of other users, destruction of or damage to the
equipment, the software or the property that belong to the
library or to other users, illegal control of electronic
communications, illegal copying of protected material
(intellectual rights) etc.
F.
The Library maintains the right to require compensation for
by any accidental destruction or damage. (I don’t understand
the rest of this, that become deliberately or even from
heaviest negligence (potential deceit).)
G.
In special cases, two individuals may use the same computer,
with the condition that it does not interfere with Library
functions.
CONDITIONS AND TERMS OF USE OF COMPUTER BY SPECIAL
CATEGORIES OF POPULATION
A. CHILDREN UNDER 12 (See article above,
paragraph C)
B. UNEMPLOYED – DESTITUTES (FINANCIALLY NEEDY?)
a. Card of unemployment or financial need must be presented.
b.
They will not charged for Library use costs (and will be
assisted by personnel?).
C.
HANDICAPPED
a.
They have direct priority of access and use of the Library
computers
b. They are not charged for Library use costs, and are
served by the personnel (see above B.b.).
TIME AND DURATION OF USE
1. The computers are available for use following hours:
Winter period (September – June)
Monday and Thursday
9.00 am – 2 pm and 3.00 pm – 8.30 pm
Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday
9.00 am – 2.00 pm
Summer period (July-August):
Monday – Friday
9.00 am – 2.00 pm
2. The access to computers will be according to the order on
a waiting list. Therefore,
members of the public wishing to
use the library computers are requested to sign their names
on the computer waiting list in advance.
3. The Library maintains the right to reserve the computers
for educational needs or for other reasons that are
connected with the library activities.
4. The limited time of use by individuals is 30 minutes at
“rush-hour” times at the library. At other hours there is no
time restriction as to length of access.
5. There is no time restriction when searching and capturing
information from the library catalogue.
6. The computers are turned off 30 minutes before the
closing of the Library to the public.
7. The Library personnel are allowed to interrupt operation
of a library computer, if, in their opinion, library
regulations are being violated.
HELP
1. Please remember, that library personnel are not computer
technicians and can only provide limited technical support.
If you have a technical problem with a library computer,
please report the problem at the Lending and Service desk
2. Library personnel will not undertake typing of documents
3. It is implied that any user of the library computers
have basic knowledge of the use of computers.
If users do not have this knowledge or have concrete
questions about the Internet, they are welcome to use the
library’s auxiliary books and handbooks.
PRINTING
1. The library provides a colored digital network
printer, for public use
2. Printing is performed indirectly. The final command of
printing is given by the responsible library staff. For more
information please contact staff in duty.
3. Printing is only performed for assignments and
research. Private files will not be printed.
SCANNING
1. Computer users are also able to use the scanning
capabilities provided users have sufficient knowledge of
scanning technology.
2. Scanning can also be performed by library personnel,
Scanned material will be delivered within one day (maximum
of 5 pages)
DOWNLOADING – SAVING DOCUMENTS
1. Computer users are able to download files on the hard
disk, and store them on floppy discs or CD which must first
be checked for possible viruses by staff at the lending and
service counter. Failure to perform this virus check will
result in denial of downloading privileges.
2. The Library is not responsible for any loss of data or
destruction of personal discs.
3. Storage of personal files on the hard discs of the
library computers is not allowed (it is also not practical),
but data can be temporarily stored during assignment work on
a corresponding file of the hard disk (\My documents \),
which is emptied at regular intervals.
E-MAIL
1. The computer users are able to use current e-mail
services only via the Internet browsers Pathfinder, in.gr,
Yahoo, Hotmail etc. User must not forget to logout - the
computer is for public use. The library is not responsible
for any problems that result from the use of such services
by the public.
2. It is possible to send large files via Outlook Express
and the library e-mail account, infocentre@sch.gr, but
reception of such files is not possible for security
reasons. For this, we request that you use a personal email
for answers.
CHAT (IMMEDIATE COMMUNICATION)
1. For direct communication, users can use only the program
MSN Messenger that is already installed on the computers. Do
not forget to log out - the computer is for public use.
2. Chatting services are only allowed via the providers of
Internet with browser.
3.
The library is not responsible for any problems that result
from the use of such services by the public.
PHOTO COPIES
1. On the ground floor there is a digital photocopy machine,
A/M, of latest technology. It is available for public use,
with the permission of responsible library staff.
2. The number of photocopies is limited, and users are
reminded of the laws about authors’ intellectual rights.
3. There is also a photocopy machine on the 3rd floor, also
available by permission of responsible staff.
The Public Central Library of Levadia maintains the rights
to alter the present policy of use at any moment, ratified
from the Library Board of Staff, and such will be publicized
on the library bulletin board as well as on the library
network site
